Q & A with Weronika

How long have you been art journalling?

I have been art journaling for a year.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?

I like natural shades, the colours of earth: brown, beige and green.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?

My grandfather used to create junk journals. They are a valuable family treasure. He is my greatest inspiration.

What is your favourite supply or product?

Inks, sprays, paste and stencils are my favourite. Lately I have got to like gel printing as well.

Why do you enter art challenges?

I like joining art challenges because they inspire me and give me motivation to create. Also thanks to them I often try new things or get to know new techniques. I like to experiment very much.

Weronika's Interpretation of our April Challenge

Weronika says:  I associate the "Being green" topic with ecology. That is why I decided to use an old book as a base. I went for my favourite colours and vintage style. First I treated the journal pages with some white gesso and then I put on some paste. I also created a pattern through a mask. Next I coloured the pages with brown and green ink. I also chose dried plants in the project and added some paint splattering. The sentiment refers to the topic of the challenge and complements the project.

At the end I wish everyone patience and persistence in caring for the seeds that will be beautiful flowers in the future.

Thank you Weronika for sharing your beautiful journal page with us. We really loved seeing your take on the challenge this month.

We hope Weronika's fantastic take on our challenge theme inspires you to enter the April challenge!

ELLE - EOTC

When I think about being green I automatically think about my garden which is completely organic and where I do as much recycling and reusing as possible. I grow a lot of my own food so I can reduce how much I have to buy from the supermarket. Most food has to travel a long way to reach the supermarket but the food from my garden is just a short walk away.

This challenge got me thinking -which is what I think a good challenge should do! I was really drawn to this image of a cow by the amazing Tamara Laporte (#willowing) over at ArtStacks and I got thinking about how it's easy to blame cows and livestock for our greenhouse emission problems but we really need to look at ourselves. So many things can be improved by changing our habits.
I think the cow agrees - she's got that look in her eyes!

HEIDI MATTESSICH

My journal page is for Earth Day. The poem below by Jane Yolen spoke to me and I thought it went along well with my page.
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.

And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.

That’s why we
Celebrate this day.
That’s why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.

KAT PALECZNY

I was inspired to create this journal by the colour green. Surrounded by flowers and leaves, wire and cardboard appear to represent environmental pollution. The flowers and leaves represent the hope that the Earth gives us.

"Green"
There is a part of all of us that connects with the Earth.
The essence of tranquillity we feel in nature is a direct call to our great internal spirit.  I'm using this for my 1st of the month #100dayproject and have recorded a hyperlapse video for it.  Please visit my Instagram to see it.

MATILDE FAB

"Being green" means a lot for me. I love the Earth and want to protect it in any way. I think the first step could be following the three "R's" - reduce, reuse and recycle. There are many other things we can do to help save the Earth. If you're looking for small ways that you can make a difference, search online for ideas of how to get started.  For creating my page I used distress crayons, inks and mists - all in green. There is a little bit of stamping as well because I can't imagine my journaling without stamps  ðŸ’š

RACHEL MARTIN

For this theme, I was inspired by the color green. I recovered a monoprint and I used this flower which represents the small gestures that we can do on a daily basis for the environment.

SHARON FRITCHMAN

The theme “Being Green” makes me remember my Irish heritage. I made the focal point of my art journal page "An Irish Blessing," which I learned from my dad. I also used ArtStacks' images to create my page. (The woman from ArtStack's new "Fabulous Faces" pack reminded me of ME, so I added digital glasses to her face!)

SUNILA MAHAJAN

Green is a colour I associate with healing and nature. It makes me feel serene and at peace. I’ve created a clean and simple page using shades of green with a dab of blue. The page gives me the same vibes as the colour- being at peace, being one with the centre.
