Special Guest Spotlight on Mariela Papeletas

Hello again everyone!  This month we have great pleasure to introduce you to Mariela, our Guest Designer for June!

We invite you to browse through her blog and social media and get to know her better through her beautiful work.  I hope you enjoy her hero-inspired project and please leave her some love in the comments!

Hi! I'm Mariela Papeletas, (papeletas are like small pieces of papers spread out on the table you know?) I'm from Argentina, and really believe in the healing power of scrapbooking and mixed media.

I begin to teach in 2014, but since 2017 some wonderful women have invited me to travel to several other countries to teach how "to play" with mixed media because I love to play with textures and some freaky shapes to develop creativity, and only a pandemic stopped me from doing this now.

In my classes, videos or training courses you're going to hear a lot about composition, focal point, theories and techniques to work in many formats, because the inspiration can come in many shapes and we have to be ready!

So, I hope you are ready for some lovely projects and with the idea that they inspire you to bring out your "brilli brilli" -the glow within you- always with journaling, texture and bright colors!

I see you soon in my social networks!

You can see more of Mariela's beautiful work by visiting the links below.

Here's a reminder of our current Main Challenge:

Word Inspiration - HERO
Creative Challenge - PAINT

And now, let's enjoy Mariela's interpretation of our challenge:

Mariela:  When you invited me to be Guest Designer in this particular month, my mind, in a second, flew towards my "old" dad... in all my childhood, he was always my support, my guide and my wings. My hero!

He made me not conform, but at the same time he kept me safe in a protected bubble... nothing bad would happen if he was around.

In this work I tried to expose those two ideas... the idea of a bubble... something free but that keeps protected inside; what makes it fly but is invisible.

Here are some closer looks at Mariela's project...

A huge THANK YOU to Mariela for joining us as our Special Guest for June 2021!  Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us.

We hope that Mariela's gorgeous project inspires you to join us
in our June Main Challenge which is open until the end of the month.

Design Team Inspiration

AUDE DEMANNEVILLE (TAG)

Aude:  Hello. here is my "bat" tag in honor of my mixed media idol, did you recognize her? Our dear Finnabair!

AGA MIRKOWSKA (TAG)
Aga: Don't look on the others - be your own IDOL! A card full of colors with motivating sentence made of our sponsor paper collection AB Studio 'Love on top'

Asia:  Who as a child did not dream of being an IDOL? I wanted to sing, and you?

DANA TATAR (ATC)

Dana:  This artist trading card is a companion piece to a design I created last year using a pop art image and Billy IDOL song lyrics. I used the same song, but different lyrics, and a different image, for this card. It was fun trying a variation on a theme using different mediums and techniques.

Heike:  You`re still my IDOL". Salvador Dali one of my favorite ARTIST. I created a TAG with a stamp image of Dali. I used Deco Art paint and 13@rts Acrylic Ink.

ELLE WILSON (ATCs)

Elle:  I made an ATC based around the idea of cats being worshipped as gods (as they should be lol).  I used a piece of watercolour paper, painted with metallic acrylic, and then I drew an Egyptian cat god (Bastet) and put it on a pedestal of watercoloured offcuts in lapis blue to continue the theme.

HEATHER MCMAHON  (TAG)

I made a tag using the quote, "Luck is the IDOL of the idle". I used a tissue palmistry hand from ArtStacks as my feature. It's so cool!

SHARON FRITCHMAN (TAG)

Sharon: I love all things vintage and couldn't wait to use these 2 fashion models from the ArtStacks' "Dressmaker" Stack. James Darren is pictured here on TV starring as the women's idol.

June 2021 Main Challenge 2nd Reveal - HERO and PAINT

Welcome to the 2nd reveal of our June Main Challenge! This month we ask you to use the inspiration word HERO and to add PAINT to your project. We also have a special offer from one of our sponsors, so keep reading to find out what that is!

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge. The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it. The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - HERO
Creative Challenge - PAINT

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

Not all heroes wear capes! Who is your HERO? Is it your father, a child or a friend? Maybe your hero is a sportsperson or an artist. Perhaps your hero really does appear in a comic book or on a screen. Whoever it is, we want to hear about it! For the creative challenge you need to add PAINT to your project. Any paint is fine!

And now let's look at our second DT Inspiration for this month:

DanaI'm very fortunate to have descended from an amazing group of strong women. I'm celebrating the HEROINES on the Paternal side of my family on this art journal page. My Great Great Grandmother was born in Algeria and went on to give birth to two daughters in France. They eventually emigrated to the USA after my Great Great Grandmother was widowed. Who knows where I would be without their courage! I used watercolor PAINT to color the background of the page and gold spray paint on the chipboard globe.

Emma: 'This is the Way' - My newest HERO is The Mandalorian! The picture actually depicts 2 heroes to me, a silent one and a cute one. The PAINT element is all over my page using acrylics with a palette knife for the desired effect for this layout. The 2Crafty chipboard is also painted in delicious acrylics.

Heikes: For the June challenge I decided to make a layout with my HERO from childhood. Who hadn't dreamed in childhood of having the powers of a "super-HERO". I dreamed that I am very strong and brave without fear. My super hero was "Batman." I created my page from the "Young and Free" paper collection from 13@rts. I used for the creative PAINT challenge also 13@rts products, mostly Color Glow.

SharonI have always taught my daughters to believe in themselves. When I heard the Mariah Carey song "HERO"(released in 1993) I knew that I would sing it to my daughters (before they were even born) and tell them to always remember that "A HERO lies in you!" In making my page, I used acrylic PAINT in the background to enhance the beautiful patterned paper and show off this favorite photo of my daughters, Katie and Anne.

Aga'We are the HEROES of our times' - this is a sentence from a song by Mans Zelmerlow and it is very adequate for this pandemic, really difficult times. I used a rice paper from collection 'Young and Free' by 13 Arts (our sponsor) and I added some acrylic PAINTS using a spatula to prepare a really textured and colorful background. I also added some acrylic PAINT though a stencil and white embossed stamps - also from the 'Young and Free' collection.

AsiaThe task of a HERO is to distinguish good from evil. What appears to be bad is not always an evil. I'm a huge fan of fantasy, so it wasn't difficult for me to find an idea for inspiration for this topic. Whoever has read or watched "The Witcher" probably understands the message of my project. From the HERO, light shines, dispersing dark thorns. I used PAINT to emphasize the black background and create the effect of a black fog that symbolizes the darkness.

PriyaThe true hero is one who conquers his own anger and hatred. A true hero is not someone who thinks about doing what is right, but one that simply does what is right without thinking! In our world of big names, curiously, our true heroes tend to be anonymous. That kind of a person is my HERO and I dedicate my page to that person. I used teal, black and white PAINT with burgundy in the background and on the chippies.

Aude: My super HERO is a Spiderman cat. I used a lot of cogs. I used emerald green spray PAINT.
