Special Guest Spotlight on
SHARON LAAKKONEN

Hello everyone!

We are sure that you will be extremely pleased with
and greatly inspired by our November Special Guest,
so with no further ado, here she is:

Sharon Laakkonen is a very prominent name in the scrapbooking industry.
It is synonym of outstanding ambition and incredible talent
and we are thrilled to have her join us to inspire you this month!

Let's learn a bit more about Sharon, through her own words:

"Hello! First off, I am always humbled to be asked to share my work as I am so inspired by everyone else. I LOVE papercrafting, work in the industry for Prima Marketing, and have met so many wonderful people around the world
as a result over the last 13 years.

Alongside working full-time, I try to squeak out as much family time as possible: watching murder mysteries with my boys, shopping with my daughters, doing crafts with my granddaughters, and worshiping together on Sunday with the whole family!  Besides being a mom to 7 children, 3 daughters and 4 sons, I am also a Nana to 3 sweet little girls, Amariah, Madelyn, and brand-new baby Elizabeth
who give me a lot of scrapbooking material.

As social media changes, you will fine me, and my latest scrapbook and planner projects, more and more on Instagram and Facebook, but I am also linking my blog as I do dust it off here and there!  I welcome you to come visit me!"

FACEBOOK  -  INSTAGRAM  -  BLOG

Here is a reminder of our November SPECIAL & OUR QUOTE challenge
followed by the exquisite project that it inspired Sharon to create!

Here is how Sharon describes how she was inspired by our word:

"As soon as I read this month's challenge, I knew the exact photo I was going to use: a very SPECIAL shot from my son's wedding. It fits perfectly with the quote too! The wedding was a high point in our family as we celebrated this SPECIAL love and welcomed another daughter into our crazy family!"

And this is how Sharon incorporated our creative challenge unto her project:

"'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue'... I love symbolism in my projects so I could not wait to incorporate as  many as I could on my 'Wedded Bliss' shaker canvas. I started with a canvas (something OLD) that I had discarded because I messed up the stencil work (so don't ever throw those projects away!)  A 4 inch photo was trimmed to fit the shaker dome, then I filled the dome with glass beads (something NEW and BLUE), adhering the photo to seal it all in. Clips of lace are added around the dome while flowers, metal and wood pieces embellish it. A sweet little dove was added as a symbol of their new life together, wishing them a very SPECIAL lifetime together filled with peace and love!"

What a gorgeous romantic and elegant keepsake that Sharon has created here, absolutely perfect for our November challenge!  Let's take a closer look at all the fabulous details from the pretty beads right down to that inspirational dove.

Sharon, thank you so much for having accepted our invitation
and for sharing with us this incredibly beautiful mixed media canvas!

We hope that you will all take inspiration from Sharon and play along

Link up your project in our sidebar by November 30th.

November 2016 Main Challenge
SPECIAL & OUR QUOTE

Oh, how time flies!  It's November already, almost a year since More Than Words made its debut. This time last year we, the Admin team, were excitedly brainstorming this new concept and working together day in and day out to shape it into reality!  We are thrilled about it all turned out and are so happy to see your entries
inspired by our challenges each month.

And speaking of challenges, here is a brand new one for November :

Our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge.
The challenge is open to layouts, canvases and art journal pages only.

Word Inspiration - SPECIAL
Creative Challenge - OUR QUOTE

What does the word SPECIAL inspire you to create? You can chose to use the word somewhere on your project or simply be inspired by it. Please explain in your blog post how the word inspired you, if not already obvious.

Even though we were inspired by weddings for our creative challenge, you do not have to create a wedding-themed project. The instructions are simple - we want you to follow OUR QUOTE as inspiration and use something OLD, something NEW, something BORROWED or something BLUE on your project.

For example, you can decide to use a brand new paper collection (NEW) or add blue paint on your background (BLUE). You can use some of those old antique buttons you've got stored away (OLD) or use a tool that you have borrowed from a friend (BORROWED). Please let us know which ones you've used. You can even challenge yourself and use all four! We will also accept projects that display the quote itself.  Easy, right?

VERY IMPORTANT! You have to incorporate both requirements of the challenge - the word inspiration AND the creative challenge - on your project to be eligible to win. Just look at our desisgners' creations and descriptions as example. Also, remember that you must include our board image and a link to our blog in your entry post.

Please check out our rules in the RULES tab above.

Arantzazu: "The word SPECIAL inspired me to create this layout about friendship as we all have that special friendship that means so much to us!  I have used an OLD paper collection that I had, NEW Prima flowers and ColourArte H2O's, and for something BLUE, some flowers, gauze and paper."

Caroline: "What can I say more about the word inspiration that this picture doesn't say already? Yes, it was my SPECIAL day, 8 years ago, when I said 'yes' to this awesome man, and it was the best decision of my life. For the creative challenge, I used BLUE watercolours and flowers, I BORROWED a text stamp and dies from friends at a crop day.  My OLD elements are the sheer butterflies from Maya Road and my NEW item is the fabulous flower stamp from Tim Holtz."

Di: "My layout for November features my gorgeous granddaughter who is super SPECIAL to me and I have a little quote saying so. For the creative challenge, I have used something OLD (old Prima flowers), something NEW (a new picture just taken), something BORROWED (lavender Magicals lended to me by a friend)
and something BLUE (my background)."

Elena: "My November project is about my SPECIAL day - my wedding. Following our creative challenge, I've used some NEW crystals, my favorite OLD stamps
and light BLUE colours on my background."

Ekaterina: "The word SPECIAL this month has inspired me to create a sweet and tender page 'specially' for you. On my project, I used some NEW chipboard, lots of BLUE elements and OLD spray that I bought 2 years ago (my first ever)."

Heather: "A SPECIAL feature about my daughter is that she is always changing her hair colour.  I used all four parts of the creative challenge quote - OLD alphas, NEW Colour Crush, a quote BORROWED from the Internet and, obviously, a lot of BLUE!"

Helen: "For me and my husband, riding our bike and travelling is something really SPECIAL - it's that great time when we are just the two of us on the road! For my layout, I used a photo of an OLD motorbike and some BLUE watercolour and mists."

Joyce: "Recently, I have been craving a SPECIAL moment where I can just stop, breathe and think. For the creative challenge, I have chosen to use NEW stamps, inks and watercolour products, BLUE watery background and OLD vintage elements. My quote reads: 'You know those things you always wanted to do?
You should do them now'."

Kristina: "A SPECIAL image from Maja Design inspired me to experience with mixed media and create this canvas with different coats of paint. I also added a sticker with the word. The composition is complemented with a vintage frame which I BORROWED from a friend, as well as some NEW lace and a new knive from Mimicat.
 I really liked the experience!"

Lilibleu: "To illustrate this new challenge, I chose to scrap a very SPECIAL moment for me since it is a picture of me on my wedding day. This is a theme I rarely scrap so I decided to go for it! The quote inspired me to add some BLUE flowers on my page.  Also, the big metallic golden heart is NEW."

Nicole: "The most SPECIAL person in my life (besides my mom) is my boyfriend of 10 years, Yves, who is a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to me. I love this month's creative challenge and decided to incorporate all four parts of the quote on my layout: OLD (picture of my beau and I taken during the start of our relationship), NEW (2 scalloped tags recently ordered online), BORROWED (while the whole page features the BoBunny Genevieve collection, I also borrowed a few items from other collections to mix and match)
and BLUE (lots of it throughout my creation!)"

NUPUR: "Live, Love, Create! Explore the unknown, create art, enjoy good times. Live in today. Reading and creating art is a magical world which makes me feel SPECIAL and takes me on a wonderful joyous ride. The colour BLUE brings me calmness and peace of mind to enjoy what I am doing, to live in today. This month's challenge is the perfect blend of SPECIAL and BLUE and this is how I have blended the two."

Pamela: "My grandson Jaxon is a very SPECIAL little boy! He inspires me in so many ways. I followed the OLD part of the quote by digging out my ancient Basic Grey papers from the Marrakesh line.  I got this adorable NEW flair this week from Cuts2luv. I BORROWED the photo from my daughter and the BLUE speaks for itself."

Rachael: "This layout features my boy turning 13 last year.  It goes without saying that it is a very SPECIAL memory for him and for me! The quote inspired me to incorporate something OLD and something BLUE. These photos of my boy were taken last year so I would consider them old, and I painted all the chipboard pieces except the filmstrip with a metallic blue paint."

Valerie: "My daughter has many qualities that make her SPECIAL and unique. To incorporate the creative challenge, I used my NEW paintbrush to create my blue flowers and, as my OLD element, I added my first ever Cuts2luv flair."

We hope that you are inspired after seeing those gorgeous DT projects!
