Special Guest Spotlight on ADRIANA November 2022

Hello everyone!

This month, we are very pleased to welcome Adriana, who was one of our August

We hope you enjoy her take on our November Main Challenge and do please visit her social links which are listed in her Artist Bio.

Artist Bio

My name is Adriana, I am from Argentina, approximately two years ago, when the pandemic began, I enrolled in the virtual classrooms of Mariela Papeletas, and from her hand I began to discover this fascinating world, I have always been inclined towards art and everything related to art. artistic expressions. I am a graphic designer and art teacher in a secondary school.

Q & A with Adriana

What is your favorite November memory?

It is a very special month, the beautiful days begin to enjoy the first heat, walks and walks with my husband Guillermo and my children Juanpi and Mariano, more time to share with friends and meetings. It is the anniversary month of being married to my love, and the time of closing of cycles.

What is your favorite supply or product?

I really like acrylics, watercolors and I love modeling paste. But the truth is that the mix media is fascinating because it allows you to continue discovering materials constantly, so I could expand my list and add stencils and rice paper to my favorites.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?

I use Instagram a lot and through this network I follow many artists of this medium, who always serve as inspiration, for example: Sharon Fritchman, Heather McMahon, Emma Zappone, MarielaPapeletas, smnmarina, dequevaelrollo, craftowanie.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?

My favorite palette is between blues and light blues, but generally it has a lot to do with the mood or what I want against at that moment.

In my art journal, I have always wanted to try...?

In my art journal I always try to be creative and let myself go. I like to experiment and discover the beauty of aesthetics through different media. It is best to observe the results and try to be self-critical.

And finally, why do you enter art challenges?

I love challenges, they are a fantastic trigger to tell something, transmit messages, feelings and express yourself.  I deeply appreciate this fantastic opportunity to show my work through the More Than Words Challenge!

Adriana's Interpretation of our November Main Challenge

Adriana says:  For this work I was inspired by the word face, I liked the phrase "choose your face", in my case I am not one to hide what happens to me and my face says it all.

I chose a vibrant palette of pink and violet colors using gelli for the background seeking to highlight the face. Some stencils and strokes with acrylic. I hope you enjoy this proposal.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful journal spread with us Adriana!  We hope Adriana's beautiful work inspires you to enter the November challenge!

The word 'imperfect' actually spells 'I'm perfect' because everyone is perfect in their own imperfect ways.  I love this sentiment. Goodness knows I am far from perfect. And I certainly don't expect perfect from anyone else. In fact, I love my people for their imperfections.

November 2022 Main Challenge - FACE and MONOPRINTING

Hello everyone and Happy November!

This month we are inviting you to FACE facts and try some MONOPRINTING.

We are excited to share the latest issue of our new digital magazine - Artful Pages - more details below! But first, let's look at this month's art journal challenge!

Our challenge has two parts, please use both prompts to inspire you:

As previously mentioned in the Art Café Facebook Group, we have suspended all sponsored prizes until further notice due to the current world situation.

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

We would like you to be inspired by both parts of our challenge
- our word inspiration FACE and our creative challenge - MONOPRINTING

When monoprinting is mentioned on social media, most often it is a reference to gel printing, but monoprinting means a process of making unique prints, which definitely can be done with a gel plate but can just as easily be done with a potato, a stamp, a woodcut or anything else that creates one-of-a-kind prints. So don't worry if you don't have a gel plate, there are plenty of ways to make unique prints!

We can't wait to see what you do and if you need more inspiration, you might find our new magazine useful!

As mentioned at the top of the post, we are excited to share the latest issue of our new digital magazine - Artful Pages - which is a new way of looking at our challenges and inspiration, as well as being able to add more value for our readers which we are not able to do in our current formats.  So here's a look at our latest issue which is available to flick through online just like a real magazine.  The magazine contains more about our challenges this month, our Design Team inspiration,Guest Designer interviews, studio spaces, and more!  Check it out and see for yourself - we would love your feedback!

Let's see what our lovely new Design Team have created this month...

ANN CHUANG

Ann says:  Here is my inspiration for the November Main Challenge. The background was created with monoprint paper I made with my Gelli plate and the face was made with Dina Wakley's stencil and Black Gesso. It's so fun to play with many stencils this time.

ELLE - EOTC

Elle says:  I think your whole life shows in your face, you should be proud of that - Lauren Bacall. I used a bunch of different gel printed papers to make my background. Some of them are from years ago but somehow don't get used - why is that I wonder? Anyway, decided to use more stuff from now on instead of hoarding it lol. I found this woman in a fashion magazine and liked her so much I wanted to use the whole image, so I had to turn my journal sideways to fit her in. Then I used a stencil and some black paint around the edges, and finished my page with a quote handwritten in black and white, with FACE letter stickers.

HEATHER MCMAHON

Heather says:  As soon as I saw the FACE part of the challenge, I knew I had to use one of Deb Weiers' new face images. I adore her version of Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring". I added some of her flowers and used her wonky circles behind my numbers.
My MONOPRINTING is a geli-print that I made. These are so good to use as backgrounds.

HEIDI MATTESSICH

Heidi says:  Hi guys! Here is my inspiration for the November Main Challenge. The background was created with collaged monoprint paper I made with my gelli plate and the face from Stamperia rice paper. I had so much fun playing with techniques I haven't used in a while!

KAT PALECZNY

Kat says: Hi, this page is my inspiration for the November Main Challenge. The background was created with collaged monoprint paper. I added a face as my focal element, and added a quote around that. I wish you have fun.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa says:
Monoprint + Face A
I have a love /hate relationship with my gel plate. I suppose it's the trial and error of it all.  What I do love is using alcohol ink on my plate. Which is exactly what I have done here.  Using a magazine image encased within the gel print border, gives focal and dominance upon the page.  Little else is needed.

Monoprint + Face B
I had a couple of different pages flowing for this months challenge, so I'm up for sharing both.  Again using alcohol ink upon the gel plate to achieve a unique mottled look, coupled with a Stamperia image on rice paper, this page evolved like a radiant flower blooming into existence.

MATILDE FAB

Matilde says:  I used my gel plate and some acrylic paints and an magazine image (the face of a celebrity) to make this monoprint. I added some stamps and applied a modeling paste through a stencil. I love the process but it's a little bit unpredictable

SUNILA MAHAJAN

Sunila says:  For this page, I took out my Gel Press and got printing. I've created layers with stencils and paints, and then used them as collage pieces for my background. I added a face as my focal element, and added a quote around that. This sure was a fun page to create!
