Special Guest Spotlight on LIBEETI FRENKEL

This month, we are very pleased to introduce you to Libeeti Frenkel, one of our fabulous Guest Designers for this month!  Libeeti was one of our February winners, just click the link to see her winning entry.

We invite you to get to know Libeeti a little better through her interview below.  Please also visit her social links which are listed in her Artist Bio.

Artist Bio

Hi, I'm Libeeti Frenkel from Israel. I'm so excited and thrilled to be a Guest Designer for MTW mini challenge this month.

I'm a single Mom of 2 teenage boys and I'm a full time civil servant. I love paper craft of all kinds. For many years I was focusing on 12x12 layouts and mini albums, but in the last couple of years I mainly make cards and mini albums. I love building my mini albums from scratch, from start to finish. As for my style - well, it has evolved through the years, and still is. For many years my style could be defined as vintage, multi layers.  At some point, I started creating  mixed media and loved it very much. Then I had a big twist towards Clean & Simple, as I thought it was very challenging for me. This is the style I'm using these days.

Q & A with Libeeti

How long have you been creating art?
I've been creating for more than 15 years. Started with cards and home decor projects, then I was hooked on scrapbooking and mixed media, and back to card making and mini albums.

What is your favourite type of art supply or product?
My Big Shot and Misty, along with stamps, dies and ink pads.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?
I'm inspired by many artists, no one in particular. When I bump into a technique or style that is new to me, I search the web to learn and to get inspired.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?
I can't really answer this question, as I always love to try new color combination, especially those that expand my color choices.

Why do you enter art challenges?
Oh, that's an easy one! because it makes me go out of my comfort zone! Challenges are an excellent way to use styles, techniques, materials and products I wouldn't think to use otherwise.  Another reason is that sometimes when my mojo is law, challenges are the best way to get my creative juices flow again.

Libeeti's Interpretation of our May Mini Challenge

When I got the challenge, the word 'wave' reminded me of the ocean, beach, etc. I had a completely different idea at the start, but when I went through my DP (designer papers), I bumped into Mintay Papers 'Marina' collection and I was so carried away by the elements in this collection, so I decided to make a 'message in a bottle' birthday card, as if the wishes were carried by the ocean waves. This time I went back to my former style, the vintage, multi layers and distressed style. I hope you like my card!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us Libeeti!  We hope that you were as carried away with Libeeti's message in a bottle card as we were and that it inspires you to enter the Mini Challenge this month.

Special Guest Spotlight on CYRILLE TEIXEIRA

This month, we are very pleased to introduce you to Cyrille Teixeira, one of our fabulous Guest Designers for this month!  Cyrille was one of our October winners, just click the link to see his winning entry.

We invite you to get to know Cyrille a little better through his interview below.  Please also visit his social links which are listed in his Artist Bio.

Artist Bio

My name is Cyrille, aka Papascrap @ Lescartesduchat on the Internet.  I'm a 42 year old man and I live in a small French village, on the edge of the Black Forest, with my husband, our 8-year-old son and our two cats.  My interest in Scrapbooking, but especially for cardmaking, began in 2011 shortly after the start of the adoption process while waiting for the magic phone call!

I still can't find the right qualifier for my style... I like Mixed Média (sometimes to excess) and Vintage/Steampunk but also clean things.  I have a few small OCDs: the kraft, the layers, the staples and the baker's twine!  I like the layering and the build up/accumulation, that's why I like Mix Media Style so much.  I like to join in challenges as it stimulates my creativity, that's why I participate in several blog cardmaking or art journal challenges per month.

Q & A with Cyrille

How long have you been creating art?
I have been creating art and scrapbooking since 2011 as we started the adoption  process.

What is your favourite type of art to make?
I like cardmaking and art journaling.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?
I especially admire the work of Dina Wakley and Drew Steinbrecher for example.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?
My favorite color is turquoise.

Why do you enter art challenges?
I think art challenges, with their constraints, stimulates my imagination and creativity.

Cyrille's Interpretation of our May Mini Challenge

I choose to make a tag with the optimistic quote "Happiness comes in waves".
I illustrate this with "camaïeu"(monochrome shades) of blue (with turquoise). The tag below the quote is scrap of cyanotype (a technique I like to incorporate into my creations). I used gauze to recall the foam of the waves. Sequins and dots brings brightness like happiness.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful tag with us Cyrille!  We hope that Cyrille's amazing, mixed media work inspires you to enter the Mini Challenge this month.

Special Guest Spotlight on ESTELLE HAWARD

This month, we are very pleased to introduce you to Estelle Haward, one of our fabulous Guest Designers for this month!  Estelle was one of our November winners, just click the link to see her winning piece.

We invite you to get to know Estelle a little better through her interview below.  Please also visit her social links which are listed in her Artist Bio.

About Estelle

I do not have an artist bio as such.  I post and create as @HartandArt in our local area where I present kids art play tables at markets and functions.

Q & A with Estelle

How long have you been art journaling?
I have been doing art journaling since late 2019.  After I ended up in hospital with a breakdown, I discovered art as part of my healing journey.

What is your favourite art journaling supply or product?
My favourite art journaling supply would be any old book, the older the better.

Are you inspired by a particular artist or artists, if so who?
I am inspired by a lot of different artists but find inspiration mostly in nature and everyday life.

What is your favourite colour palette to use?
My favourite colour palette is purple, magenta, and golden green.

Why do you enter art challenges?
I do not enter art challenges as a rule but when I do enter it is more because I want to share some words or inspiration than concentrating on the art itself.  I find that social media and the influence of likes or not receiving likes plays too big a role on how we view our creativity.  It is our journey, with our intentions and colours and feelings and we should not negate the value of what we have produced because of a lack of likes on fb.

Estelle's Interpretation of our May Main Challenge

My project for this challenge incorporates my favourite inspiration which is the ocean.  I find so much freedom, clarity, and insights when I listen to the ocean and spend time with my feet in the water.  The breaking of waves happens in a rhythm that is very similar to our restful heartbeat and acts as a great slower downer when things get crazy.  I tried to incorporate the motion and sound of the crashing waves' effect in balancing my internal world.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful journal spread with us Estelle!  We hope that Estelle's beautiful work inspires you to enter the Main Challenge this month.

May 2022 Main Challenge - Ocean & Add Splatters - Design Team Inspiration

Hello everyone and Happy May! Welcome to our May Main Challenge. As it is also #MerMay this month we are also on the lookout for mermaids and so you may well see a mermaid or two in our creations this month! Here comes the challenge!

All our Main Challenges are now ART JOURNAL Challenges!

Our challenge has two parts, please use both prompts to inspire you:

Word Inspiration:  OCEAN
Creative Challenge:  ADD SPLATTERS

As previously mentioned in the Art Café Facebook Group, we have suspended all prizes until further notice due to the current world situation.

Helpful Tips For The Challenge

We would like you to be inspired by both parts of our challenge - our word inspiration OCEAN and our creative challenge - ADD SPLATTERS. We can't wait to see what you do!

Let's see what our lovely Design Team have created this month...

SHARON FRITCHMAN

Sharon says:  I have always loved the OCEAN! My parents didn't have a lot of money, but they made sure we took a trip to the New Jersey shore every summer, if just for a day! I loved walking along the beach, feeling the the sand at my feet, and especially liked seeing the OCEAN rise and fall. It had a magical quality and I had many a dream of seeing a mermaid. In making my art journal page, I scattered black and white paint SPLATTERS around my silhouette mermaid and added the quote "The OCEAN is calling and I must go."

HEATHER MCMAHON

Heather says:  I found this wonderful quote online and it was perfect for my OCEAN art journal page. I was in a textural mood so I added lots of gorgeous sea-coloured texture to the cluster on the left. I created my background with geli printing and added SPLASHES in two shades of blue and pink.

LISA OXLEY

Lisa says:  Reading the requirements for this months challenge, instantly took me to the deep sea. As a child I grew up in a Lighthouse, and the fantasy to see a mermaid was utterly palatable to me.

"She splashed and splattered water in my direction, her ocean eyes glistened, calling me to frolic and swim in the warmth of the deep blue sea."  This one is called "Ocean Eyes".

ELLE - EOTC

Elle says:  I've been thinking a lot lately about where I want to be and this place would be very high on the list - Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland where I have been lucky enough to visit more than once. I used watercolour, acrylic, metallic watercolour, collage, and even some Harris Tweed. If you look carefully, you might even see a little mermaid visiting the sheep!  Visit my blog to see how this page came together.

KAT PALECZNY

Kat says:  The main challenge for May is verbal inspiration: Ocean. In my work I used the quote "As free as the ocean"  May is of course also MerMay time, so my design featured a mermaid.

SARAH DORGERE

Sarah says:  The OCEAN is water vacations by the beach, and this is my inspiration from my diary. Holidays on the beach to enjoy the warm sand and the sound of waves.
