March 2024 - Signs & Symbols and Meaningful Marks

Happy new month!  We hope you enjoyed our February challenge - we certainly enjoyed seeing all your entries!

This month is all about mark-making and what signs and symbols are meaningful to you.  Please bear in mind that this would be an ideal opportunity to use your Word of the Year also and focus your mark-making and symbols around your word.

It is our hope that we can continue to use our word of the year in all of our pages this year just to keep that fresh in our minds, together with the monthly prompts or instead of them. The choice is yours!

We can't wait to see what you create this month and what you choose to focus on!  Due to changes on Instagram it is harder to see the recent entries on a hashtag, so please also remember to tag us @mtw_challenge so we don't miss your projects.

Design Team Inspiration

Let's see what our lovely Design Team have created this month. If you love their projects, please visit their social links, like or follow them on your favourite social media.

ELLE - EOTC

Ready to...
I added a lot of mark-making by hand and also using some Tracy Scott stamps from Paperartsy.  When it came to symbols I realised that I had to include a kitty as my own personal symbol, as they appear many times in my art, accidentally or on purpose.  I made my page with a pocket to hold two tags with even more mark-making on them.  More photos and details on my blog.

HEATHER MCMAHON

I used my Word of the Year - determination - and lots of mark-making on my page. The black stripes on the sides of the pages are made with a paint and a fork. I also hand-drew the alphas (using a stencil).  I confess that the rest of the marks are from ArtStacks' new release Tissue Backgrounds but they worked perfectly for this! I had fun adding blanket stitching to the edges of some of the papers too.  I hope you'll join us this month!

I'm doing a full step by step about how I made this on my blog if you want to take a look.

HEIDI MATTESSICH

I decided to use my WOTY for this challenge. My word is Possibility. A google search showed the symbol for possibility which is the infinity symbol.

My word of the year is IMAGINATION. One of the symbols of imagination is the bulb so I used them here. I created my background using distress oxides, the tissue paper and a stamp. I hope you like it
