Special Guest Spotlight on Marie-Christine Denis

Hello again everyone!  This month we have great pleasure to introduce you to Marie-Christine Denis, our Guest Designer for May!

We invite you to browse through her blog and social media and get to know her better through her beautiful work.  I hope you enjoy her colourful bright and krafty art journal project and please leave her some love in the comments!

Hi, My name is Marie-Christine Denis, I live in Brittany, France with my husband, my son and my little dog. I started scrapbooking like many of us, making pages with photos of my son when he was a little boy. Then, I discovered the techniques of Mixed Media and now I am an Addict! I create Art Journal pages, cards, tags and bookmarks.  My creations are always very colorful, mainly pink and green. I also like to add a vintage touch by using  collage.

I hope this Art Journal page inspires you for this month's challenge and I warmly thank More than Words Challenges for inviting me as Guest Designer.

You can see more of Marie-Christine's beautiful work on her blog or Facebook, just click the links below.

Here's a reminder of our current Main Challenge:

Word Inspiration - FACES
Creative Challenge - USE KRAFT

And now, let's enjoy Marie-Christine's interpretation of our challenge:

Marie-Christine:  This project inspired me a lot, I love drawing faces, so I made this one on Kraft paper.  I cut it out and then glued it on the background of my Art Journal. I also found a quote which I find is apt with this girly face. I wanted some color around, I first used spray ink and rice paper, then I created designs with stencils and texture paste. A few flower stamps, cut and colored in watercolor are placed in the hair. I hope this interpretation of the challenge will inspire you!

Here are some closer looks at Marie-Christine's project...

A huge THANK YOU to Marie-Christine for joining us as our
Special Guest for May 2021!  Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us.

We hope that Marie-Christine's beautiful art journal page inspires you to join us
in our May Main Challenge.

Design Team Inspiration

ELLE WILSON (ATCs)

Elle:  When I saw that the challenge theme was "eyes" of course I had to go with cat eyes!  I drew these three ATC cats in soft pastels and they are based on some of my own cats.  I used a well known quote about cat eyes which reads "Who can believe that there is no soul behind those luminous eyes!"

JINAL SAVLA (CARD)

JINALBe the quirky you! I sketched the eyes and lips. To add to the quirkiness I placed the features on the face in an unconventional way to remind us to be quirky, weird, just be the way you are, the one you see in the mirror everyday! Just be unapologetically YOU.

KAT PALECZNY (TAG)

LISA OXLEY (TAG)

LISA: "For she had eyes and chose me." Incorporating this beautiful quote from Shakespeare's "Othello" with new release Jane Davenport washi tape.

SARAH DORGERE (TAG)

SARAH: Eyes never lie. It is this quote that I wanted to convey via this tag.

VIDHI JADEJA (CARD)

VIDHI: I have created an "old age" fun greeting card! It was really a fun process to create this card! After searching some for quotes I got this; "At your age, you need some glasses." It directly strikes my mind to create this fun card!

MARIE JOHANSSON (TAG)

MARIE: My inspiration for this tag was actually my son. He has been playing the electric guitar since 2 years back - and even though I am a part in the case - he is pretty darn good. One of the songs he pays a lot is "Electric Eye" by Judas Priest. Just loving it too - so - if you need a pick-me-up - go find it on Spotify!

HEIKE AUGENBLICK (TAG)

HEIKE: I created a TAG with the wonderful eye washi tape from Jane Davenport and a stamp from the company Katzelkraft.

May 2021 Main Challenge 2nd Reveal - FACES and KRAFT BACKGROUND

Welcome to the 2nd reveal of our May Main Challenge! This month we ask you to use the inspiration word FACES and add a KRAFT BACKGROUND to your project.

As always, our Main Challenge is based on a word inspiration and a creative challenge. The word inspiration can appear on your project or not but you must show that you have been inspired by it. The creative challenge must be used on your project!

Word Inspiration - FACES
Creative Challenge - KRAFT BACKGROUND

We have a treat for you! For the month of May, we have joined with Kraft Plus Challenges to create one joint challenge that you can enter both challenge sites with! Here's how it works: Create a project on a KRAFT BACKGROUND using FACES as your inspiration. Enter your project in either one, or both, challenges. That's it! Each challenge site will run their challenges as usual.
And now let's look at our second DT Inspiration for this month:

Aude: For the FACEs and KRAFT challenge, I decided to highlight my friend Christelle, a nice photo of her wedding. I always create in the romantic style. I used a kraft paper bag as a basic support and patterned papers from the Mintay Florabella collection.

DanaI love the reckless, loose, and joyous spirit of the band FACES. Rod Stewart's distinctive raspy singing voice is instantly recognizable and is one of my favorites to listen to. I used a Faces concert poster that featured mix-and-match face sections and had an absolute blast putting the parts together to make faces (while listening to the album!) across the center of the page. I used a black and KRAFT patterned paper for the base of this layout and painted sections of the design to add color.

Emma: What a challenge! KRAFT paper as my base sheet and as a tag behind my image. For the FACES word challenge I couldn't stop singing Bowie's 'Changes' song with the lyrics featured. So I used it as my title along with the face image that I found on Pinterest and stencil from my stash. I also used products from 2Crafty Chipboard.

Heikes: For our beautiful May challenge I decided to get out some of my FACE stamps. The collage FACE image should be my focal point. I built my layout around this boy FACE. This was so much fun, to start a layout with a collage image. I applied a white wash to my KRAFT background paper, first. The white wash should ensure that my stamped image is nice and clear. A little bit of watercolor and stickers from 13@rts here and there, and much more. I think the FACE photos from Tim Holtz complete my layout.

SharonWhen I saw this challenge was about FACES, I immediately remembered photos of my daughter that I took when she was 6 years old. She was posing for the camera and looked absolutely adorable making her silly FACES and wearing cool shades. I used KRAFT paper as my background and designed my page with patterned paper and embellishments to draw your eye to the adorable fun FACES!!

AgaMy inspiration this month is a collage made in my art journal. Sometimes people can't talk about their emotions, but we see on their FACES that something is going on. We think ‘If only FACES could talk... it’ll be so much easier.’ I used a lot of KRAFT paper elements in the background of my collage. I tore the KRAFT paper into pieces and glued it onto old book pages. I painted the background using acrylic paint, embossed stamps, and I also used modeling paste with a stencil. I used 13 Arts gesso, modeling paste, acrylic ink, stencil and stamps and AB Studio wings from transparent foil.

AsiaI have a art journal in KRAFT papers. I love to use saturated colors so I decided to add red and turquoise. I found a few gears that I prepared for another project and an idea for a male art journal page came up. I used a transparent foil from AB studio from which I transferred the male figure to the page. The man's FACE expresses self-confidence and self-control, and I matched the inscriptions with it.

Priya: For FACES, I used some face molds and a quote "if only FACES could talk." For KRAFT, I used a corrugated cardboard sheet.

And now for some of those changes mentioned above. There will no longer be Runner Up, Random, or Mystery winners for our Main Challenge. This year we have changed to a Regional Prize structure, whereby there will be multiple Main Challenge Winners, one or more from each Region. The number of Winners/Prizes for each Region is dependent on the number of Sponsors for that Region. Some of our Sponsors remain as International Sponsors but many are now Region specific. It is now more important than ever that you add your NAME and COUNTRY to your Inlinkz entries!

We are so very proud to spotlight the gorgeous projects from the awesome designers from the Kraft Plus Team along with their Special Guests
who have been inspired by the May Main Challenge

Rachel Rigden: Funny faces, old supplies, new supplies, had fun!

Sandra Brimelow: I found this to be a tricky challenge, I didn't want to just use a photo with faces. Then I found these face stamps in my stash, and thought I would make some cards with them. So basically it was the graphics of the faces that inspired me.

Jo Lovespaper: I immediately knew what I wanted to do with my craft cardstock and which photos I would use also upon reading the theme.

Paula Perry: I certainly embraced the 'face' with this art journal page, using loads of Dina Wakley products.

Lizzy Hill: My focus on faces is the faces of my 3 gorgeous grand boys, now living in Vietnam. I've journaled about how the eyes are the window to our souls - it's a bit hard to read, but I wanted to sort of write a note to them about who I see them becoming.

Lizzy Crust: We had a holiday at the Sunshine Coast in January and came across this fabulous mural and of course I had to get a photo for this challenge. What funky and fun faces on this wall! This was my inspiration for this months Faces challenge.

Tracey Beer: I did something I rarely do - reworked a LO from about 15 years ago using the same title and most of the same photos. Will put them side by side in an album just to see the change in style.

Amy Churchward: Funny Faces it is for me! I took some quirky selfies whilst goofing around with the phone.

Heather McMahon: The word FACES made me think of the different faces that we wear during our lives. This led to think about the different 'hats' we wear. I seem to be switching from one hat to another a lot lately and sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming. I feel like it's a mystery which hat I'm going to be wearing from one hour to the next. With this in mind I made a tongue-in-cheek board game - spin the spinner and see which hat to wear next! This was a great way to use up paper scraps and leftover alphas. I printed an assortment of hats and typed the names of some of the 'hats' I wear on them. The spinner is an arrow and the face is from ArtStacks.

K+ Guest Designer Debra Beer: The Bent Leg Café is in the small town of Denman in the Hunter Valley NSW. We met up with my daughter and the 3 eldest grandkids, and of course coffee and milkshakes were a must have. We found this quaint Café called the Bent Leg Café. I saw the sign which really appealed to me, so I took this photo. A few days later when thinking about the challenge, I thought I have just the perfect photo, alas my layout came together beautifully.

K+ Guest Designer Michelle Jamieson: I found a great photo to use for Focus on Faces, which had approximately 16 lovely faces. I had to use a clock face embellishment to go with the challenge too. I found some very old Amy Tangerine "Stitched" collection in my stash and thought that was appropriate for this page. I love using washi tape on my layouts and it wouldn’t be a layout of mine without my signature doodled border and paint spots.

We hope that you will take inspiration from their designers' take on our challenge
and you will play along with the May Main Challenges on both sites!

You have until May 31st to link up! Remember, one project can be used to enter both challenges! Create a project on a KRAFT BACKGROUND using FACES as your inspiration. Enter your project in either one, or both, challenges. That’s it! Each challenge site will run their challenges as usual. If you're not familiar with Kraft Plus Challenges, they do not use a linky tool. Submit your project to them via the Kraft Plus Community Facebook Group or email them your project at kraftplusaust@outlook.com. We  hope you'll join in the fun!
